Summer Survival Guide

The Amazing Power of VBS #2: New Relationships

VBS is an opportunity for your kids, & YOU, to meet new people. What makes it great is these are people with the same interests you have: family, faith, friends. Your children are able to meet kids that may live in your neighborhood but not go to their school.

This is also a chance to get to know the people at the church. VBS is a more relaxed environment than Sunday morning might seem. You are able to chat with the volunteers at the church & get a feel for them. I know some people don’t like this but I believe families need to visit different churches before deciding which one they want to join. If you don’t know anyone at a church, have no ties, like family members at a specific church, you need the chance to visit a church for different events to see what it & the members are like. Since VBS takes place over several days, you have a chance to meet different people & get to know them better. You children have a chance to take part in church activities & let you know what they think. You might not base your decision just on the opinion of your children however, you do want to choose a church where your children feel safe & they are able to grow spiritually.

If you already have a church home & are simply looking for additional activities for your children over the summer, VBS is a fun & safe place to enroll your children. Kids from their school may be part of the session & moms from school might be part of the church allowing you & your kids to strengthen established relationships. This is also a way to meet new people, expanding your network.

VBS is a great way for your family to develop new relationships with children & adults. After all, we can never have too many friends!
